I want colourful food.

So this weekend I had two family dinners that both celebrated Father's day. They weren't very big, but still, it meant that I didn't have to cook! It was nice to catch up with family again as I haven't seen them for a while.

Friday I didn't eat much throughout the day. Not so sure why... I think it's because I tend to skip breakfast and because of that I just eat less. I know that I was really upset in the afternoon and usually I eat when i'm upset but this was a different kind of upset - it was one where I just wanted to sleep it off... which is what I did.

Brunch was fried rice my mum made. And mum never ever puts a lot of oil so it made me feel better.

Rice with egg, carrots, peas, ham and prawn

The rest of the day I didn't eat anything... but before we left the house to go to my grandparents I pretty much ate half of the packet while driving.

Thanks mum for unwrapping them for me.

For dinner we had an array of things to eat. Mum made congee which is a rice porridge... it may look gross like all porridges but it's oh so nice. And she added chicken to it which was my favourite. Now I really don't think this is unhealthy the slightest. There is no oil used in this dish. It's just water, rice and a bit of salt. Oh and the shredded chicken. I always eat this when i'm sick!

I sometimes put soy sauce on this... it just shows how Asian I am!

Next is the crab meat soup that is mixed with asparagus. Once again, it's soup based so no fatty oils or anything. The crab meat is no doubt canned but that's all the bad stuff I can think of. This these two dishes are pretty much always the popular choices whenever we have dinners... and Pho which is the beef noodle soup.

Mum kicks everybody's ass when it comes to making this!

I didn't eat much of the food that night (I was still very upset and didn't feel too good :( ) and so I only had a couple of chicken wings that my aunt had cooked. Those were deep fried so they were obviously very unhealthy but I didn't eat very much of it because the oil didn't appeal to me anymore. You can tell that I am taking more notice of what I eat. I also didn't eat the stir fry noodles as well! What's going on with me?!

For dessert, my cousin and I went out to Woolies and picked up some icecream for my little cousins. They were going through a hard time with family issues so we thought we'd spoil them a little (with my aunt's money ahah) and went all out with the icecream cones and choc tops.

The chocolate bars were just for us ;)

What I realised was that i'm supposed to be thinking healthy and trying to change the way I think and eat. After posting up these images, i'm now wondering why I didn't choose a healthier dessert for the kids. I am potentially encouraging unhealthy eating to them! I should have chosen frozen yogurt or fat free icecream with fruit instead! Next time I cook, i'm going to make healthy desserts that require me to eat fruit. No excuses.

The next day was Saturday which meant work at 8am. Luckily for me, mum had heated up some congee for me to eat before work... the only reason why I managed to eat breakfast was because I was running late and I just did not feel too good. If you must know crying + staying up late = screwed up nose and puffy eyes. So the only reason why I had breakfast was because I was hungry and didn't care about showing up to work late.

It was a crazy busy day that day so when I did finally eat lunch from the cafe, I scoffed it down so fast and realised I didn't take a photo of it. So for the record, it was served as four peices not two. It was a chicken and avocado melt. I love it so much. And they are generous with their avocado that's for sure! And if you must know, they are a powerful antioxidant, brilliant for your skin and helps protect your liver :)

Oh and I know I never talk about what I drink every day (I only mention alcohol), but I always drink water or ice tea... I rarely ever buy any soft drinks.

I went to Benn's house after work where I relaxed in my emo mood because work was busy and I was still upset from last night. His mum came in and gave me chocolates cos ha, she knows how much I love food. What does that say about me?!

That night was a work party that provided free food and drinks. Obviously free is my favourite four letter word. I didn't eat much food though. Ok I was intoxicated that night so my thinking wasn't as up to scratch but I did manage to remember to take a photo. I'm going to try and remember what I ate from the platter... beef kebabs, spring rolls, calamari, and some chips. I remember not wanting any of the sausage rolls and party pies because of the processed meat inside it. I actually remember that! Wow, I don't think you understand, when I am drunk, food is food and I don't care about anything else. I am pretty proud of myself. Now don't get me wrong, the shit I ate from the platter was probably bad too but at least i'm trying to make an effort. WARNING: it looks so so gross but that's because the person who was serving us put the food from another plate on top of this plate and everything looks all messy and gross.

Yeah that looks so, so bad.

The rest of the night was just an embarrassment. But food blog wise, nothing else was eaten.

Sunday! Ah, wasn't very hung over, didn't need to start work till 11am which was splendid. Had good old Benny looking after me that night and in the morning so all was good. For breakfast, it was the same porridge which had a smiley face on it this time. Haha Benn's artistic skills.

For the first time, I had a packed lunch for work! Benn's mum made me a sandwich which was very sweet ahaha. It was a tuna and cheese sandwich and I got to have a juice box too! I felt like I was back in school... and to think Benn gets this every week at work. What a mummy's boy.

But then I smelt hot chips and followed the smell....

No I didn't eat the whole thing...! It was covered in gravy btw.

That night I had a Father's day dinner with my oh so dysfunctional family. We decided to go to Korean Bbq which was a change! Korean bbq was different because we cooked the meats ourselves... and it wasn't even overly marinated. I felt like it was such a nice change from the typical stir frys that we normally ordered. There wasn't much oil or fatty foods involved. However, I did miss eating vegetables :( I still felt like I was missing my nutrients.

Entrees. I'm not really sure what all these dishes are called...
I only ate that giant dumpling and the potatos.

Cooking Ox Tongue. I was grossed out. But it wasn't that bad...
until I remembered what it was and couldn't eat it anymore.

Cooking the chicken, beef ribs and prawns.

Korean bbq was an alright choice for dinner because it made me feel like I knew exactly what I was eating as i'm the one cooking it myself. But I mean, there wasn't any vegetables that made the meal more healthy or anything. The lettuce was just for display I reckon! Although I find this to be way better than a typical stir fried dish, it's not just up there in the healthiness. Yep, cooking your own meals is still a lot better.

After a full week of doing this blog, I am starting to be a bit more health consious. Obviously there hasn't been any dramatic changes yet but at least it's been playing on my mind. Lets see how I go next week.

Oh and just to let you know, i'm sick. Friday night made me sick =( So hmm this is going to be a different week because i'll be eating home cooked food from mum.

Nobody judge me!
